Hmmm...

By

March 2006

I feel like I cursed us with my observations on the lack of cold weather last month, so I will refrain from further comment on the weather, lest we all be buried in waist deep snow!  Either that or we will all be in shorts and tank tops, grilling food on the sidewalks in front of our homes in Mid-March.  Neither is a pretty situation to imagine but they do seem to be the name of the game this winter.

As you may recall, I asked for volunteers last month for our annual Officer Appointments.  I am pleased to announce that ALL of the volunteer positions have been filled!  Many have been filled with returning volunteers, some of whom have served CAM for years.  While this is a wonderful thing, it is also wonderful to see so many new names on the list of CAM Officers.   Let me introduce these new folks to you (and I hope that you take the time to read the inside back cover to acquaint yourself with all of the people who make this organization happen here in Cincinnati).

First of all, Heidi MacNeal has decided to take on the Gen-X SIG, not only as CAM's new SIG coordinator but also as owner of the Yahoo Group.  Thanks for taking this on, Heidi!  The Gen-X SIG has been very active here in Cincinnati and I hope that this continues, not only with Gen-X events, but with regular CAM events as well.  All of you are the future of Mensa.

Barry Austern has also joined us on the inside back cover.  No, Barry is not new to CAM, nor is he new to volunteering, but he is new to the job of Omsbuddy (yes, that is a word - sort of :-).  This, thankfully, has been a position that gets very little action here in Cincinnati (none at all that I am aware of in recent years).  But thank you Barry for being willing to be available to members who may have need of assistance with conflict resolution.

Dave MacGregor is another new face on the Officer List.  Since I have been involved in Ex Comm (about 3 years) we have had only one person take on the position of Calendar Keeper, and that was only for a relatively brief time.  Dave's job is to gather information from the various officers who plan events (and members as well) and from other sources for national and regional events and to compile all of this for use by our membership and our Editor and Web-mistress. Sounds like fun, eh?  Thanks, Dave!

The final new face is that of Jeannette Ramirez.  Again, Jeannette is not new to CAM or to volunteering.  As many of you know, John Cunningham expects to be leaving us in the coming months.  One important job that John has been performing for CAM is that of Membership Officer.  Jeannette has agreed to step in to train with John so that she is prepared to take over when he does leave.  She was appointed Membership Officer Understudy at this past Ex Comm meeting.  We appreciate it, Jeannette!

Well, I know that I vowed to make it to an Indian Buffet in February and that has not happened.  Time, time, time - where does it go?  I am still craving Tandoori chicken and rice and I suppose that will continue, at least until the Girl Scout Cookie Sale ends.  I picked up the cookie order for my daughter's troop just yesterday - 1680 boxes.  Anybody need any Thin Mints?
