Charity Auction

Once again at our Regional Gathering, the Rainflower Chapter of Hell's Mensans will be hosting a charity auction. Taking place at the RG on Saturday, December 1, 100% of the auction's prizes will be donated by The Rainflowers, so 100% of the proceeds will go to a charity chosen by Cincinnati Area Mensa. Including the auction held at our 1999 RG, this project has sponsored six sales which have netted over $13,500 to date. Every penny has gone to charities chosen by the local Mensa chapter.

As always, there will be autographed items, rare books, curios, antiquities, leathers, fine jewelry and much more. The last auction even featured a crocodile hand!

There are several extra-ordinary items up for grabs this year. Among these are a Firestone Racing Team RACE WORN jacket. There is a Civil War veteran's grave marker; it's right at 100 years old. There are three old, hand-sewn quilts. Plus, drum roll here, please, we have a Ray Bradbury signed, advance-publication copy of Quicker Than the Eye. Wow!

The highest ticket item, yet more fanfare and drum rolls, is a 16" string of 46 matched pearls. Re-strung in October, featuring a 14 k gold clasp, these pearls are 7.5 to 8.0 mm and have a very delicate tone. The were professionally appraised by three Indianapolis jewelers; minimum appraisal $775, maximum $950.

We should all remember that our RG--and the auction--will occur just three weekends before Christmas. We should also remember that we have mothers, wives, sweethearts or some combination thereof...we can buy great gifts at minimum money. Finally, we should all remember that 100% of every winning bid goes immediately and directly to charity. No middleman!

Every item available at our auction can be bid on either in-person or by proxy (absentee). Proxy bids can be entered on your behalf, in one dollar increments, up to any maximum amount you specify. For more information, or to get an up-to-date auction listing, contact: Greg Crawford at 8262 Sobax Drive Indianapolis IN 46268-1728.
